Why is the program guide (EPG) empty?
Where an IPTV player gets the TV guide from, the usual reasons it stays empty for some or all channels, and what you can do about each one.
The program guide, or EPG (electronic program guide), is the schedule that shows what is on a channel now and what comes next. In an IPTV player the guide does not come from the player. It comes from your IPTV provider, and that is why it sometimes stays empty even though the channel plays fine.
Short answer: if the guide is empty for every channel, your provider is not sending guide data for your playlist, or your M3U list does not say where the guide file is. If only some channels are empty, those channels are not linked to an entry in the guide. In both cases the fix is on the provider’s side, but there are a few things you can check first.
Where Glaze gets the guide from
- Xtream Codes login: Glaze asks your provider’s server for the schedule of each channel.
- M3U link or file: Glaze reads the guide address from the first line of the list, in the
url-tvgorx-tvg-urlattribute. The guide itself is a separate XMLTV file on the provider’s server. Files up to 300 MB are supported.
At the moment you cannot type in a guide address of your own; Glaze uses the one that comes with your playlist.
Why the guide is empty for all channels
- Your provider does not offer a guide. Some do not, or only for part of their channel list. Check your provider’s site or ask their support.
- The M3U list has no guide address. Open the list in a text editor or a browser and look at the first line. If it is just
#EXTM3Uwith nothing after it, the player has no guide to load. Many providers offer a second link type, often calledm3u_plus, that includes it. - The guide file is too large or unreachable. Very large XMLTV files (over 300 MB) are skipped, and if the provider’s guide server is down, nothing arrives. Try again later.
- You recently switched lists. The guide is loaded together with the playlist. After a change, give Glaze a moment to prepare the new list.
Why only some channels are empty
In an M3U list each channel carries a tvg-id. The guide file lists programs under channel IDs. When the two do not match exactly, the player cannot tell which schedule belongs to which channel, and that channel stays empty.
Common reasons:
- The provider changed the channel’s ID in the list but not in the guide, or the other way round.
- The channel is a temporary event channel (a single match, a pay-per-view event) that never had a schedule.
- The channel is a regional or backup copy (for example a “Backup” or “FHD 2” version) that the provider did not map.
These can only be fixed by the provider. When you report it, name the channels and say which ones do have a guide; it helps them find the mismatch.
If the times are wrong
If programs appear but everything is shifted by exactly one or more hours, the guide data usually carries the wrong time zone. Report it to your provider with one example: the channel, the time shown and the real start time.
Things you can try yourself
- Use Xtream Codes instead of M3U if your provider supports it. The guide then comes straight from their server and does not depend on a guide address in the list. M3U or Xtream Codes? shows how to find your Xtream details inside an M3U link.
- Refresh the playlist. In the settings, Refresh playlist compilation rebuilds the list and reloads the guide.
- Check another channel. If well-known channels have a schedule and a few do not, the problem is the mapping described above, not your setup.
How the guide looks in Glaze
On a TV, live channels can be shown as a Strip, a List or a full Guide: a grid with a timeline where you move through the hours with the remote. On phones, tablets and computers you switch between the EPG and List views. A channel without guide data still plays; it simply shows no schedule.
